Location: Thomasville

Mr. David Kirby Groome, 86, of Thomasville passed away Friday, January 4 at Providence Place after an extended illness. He was born May 17, 1932, the son of the late Kirby Asbury Groome and Amy Gertrude Stone Groome. For over 35 years he worked in various positions at Myrtle Desk Company and later retired from the Thomasville School System. He was also a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. David loved to rabbit hunt in his younger days and often volunteered his auctioneering services for church and community events…but many people will remember him as a weather fanatic. Folks would reach out to David to get the winter forecast and snow projections. He also was never caught without his favorite Juicy Fruit chewing gum. David was a member of Unity United Methodist Church and later attended Greenwood Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Groome; son, Brent David Groome (Dana) of Conway, SC; a granddaughter, Kirby Elizabeth; a grandson, Evan Fletcher; brother, Billy A. Groome (Loretta). He also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Donnie Durham officiating. Interment with military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Life Center, 601 W. Center St. Lexington, NC 27292 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262. Online condolences may be sent to www.jcgreenandsons.com.
