Mrs. Margaret Lee Scarlette Hartley, 89, a resident of Welcome, formerly of Thomasville, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018. She was born on April 28, 1929 to the late Roy Robert and Hope Connor Scarlette in Davidson County. Mrs. Hartley was a homemaker for many years. On October 25, 1947 she married Cletus “Zeb” Hartley. Mrs. Hartley was a longtime member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church where she and Zeb were a part of the Bereavement Committee for many years. Over the years, Mrs. Hartley loved to crochet afghans for the majority of her fellow church members. She also made them for various charities, such as Victory Junction Camp, for whom she made over 300 afghans, and Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville. Mrs. Hartley also enjoyed baking desserts. She was known to make her desserts on Friday afternoon for the following weekend. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hartley is preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Mrs. Hartley is survived by her husband of 71 years, Cletus “Zeb” Hartley, of Welcome; son, David Hartley and wife Patsy of Thomasville; daughter, Connie Hartley Yarbrough and husband Tom of Chesnee, SC; a half-sister; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and special friends. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, November 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Carolina Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Poe officiating. Interment will follow the service in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will greet friends in the church sanctuary at 1:00 PM prior to the service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and/or Grayson Creek Assisted Living, 6781 Old Hwy 52, Lexington, NC 27295. J.C. Green and Sons of Thomasville is assisting the family.
