Mrs. Della Mae Mason Grant, 77, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 12, 1939 in Macon County, NC to the late George H. and Ola Haney Mason. Mrs. Grant retired from Davidson County Schools where she worked in the cafeteria for many years. On Friday the thirteenth, in April of 1957 she married Gerald Gene Grant. She loved to shop at thrift stores, and was known for her ability to repurpose just about anything. Mrs. Grant was known as the “Icee Lady,” she loved to deliver Icee’s to the neighborhood children, and she also enjoyed playing the piano. However, above all else, she loved her family very much. Mrs. Grant was a member of Hughes Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Mason, Charles Mason, and Howard Mason; two sisters, Olene Guffey, Helen Hornaday; two grandchildren, Austin Gene Grant and Jacob Lee Faircloth. Mrs. Grant is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, who never left his wife’s side during her sickness, Gerald Grant, of the home; two sons, Terry Grant and wife Denise of Thomasville and Danny Grant and wife Teresa of Thomasville; one daughter, Paula Grant of Thomasville; two brothers, Jack Mason and wife Kitty of High Point and Cecil Mason and wife Claudette of Lexington; six sisters, Marylou Dehart of Topton, NC, Gertrude Cecil of High Point, Naomi Sanderson of Fayetteville, Barbara Kennedy and husband Wayne of Chattanooga, TN, Bessie Mae Bryant and husband Gene of Topton, NC, and Ann Hooper and husband Johnny of Topton, NC; six grandchildren, Natalie Faircloth and husband Dewayne, Derrick Grant and wife Ali, Ty Grant and wife Melissa, Hailey Grant, Collin Grant, and Chloe Grant; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Faircloth, Lucas Faircloth, Micah Faircloth, Makailyn Grant, and Isaac Grant; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Hughes Grove Baptist Church in Thomasville with Dr. John Hill and Rev. Hoyt Mason officiating. Interment will follow the service in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the church. Mrs. Grant will remain at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
